I am renting an amazing 10x13 sq ft room with 13 foot high ceiling and one 5' x 10' window that provides immense natural lighting in early 20th century, formerly school building w/ a modern elevator, furnished room and wooden floors. This former school is on the list of historic landmark buildings of New York City. The space is perfect for students who need privacy and quiet space. We are 10 min walk to Columbia's Jerome L. Greene Science Center and 10 min wak to Columbia's School of Social work. The commute is easy. The building sits directly above the 125th ABCD express subway station. The subway entrance is 50 feet from the frond door. The A and D trains run express - Columbus Circle / Central Park: 6 minutes / Times Square: 8 mins / 34th St: 10 mins / West Village-NYUniversity: 16 minutes / LES: 20 mins. Columbia University, Manhattan School of Music and City College are a short walk. The modern kitchen and bath are shared with 2 other large rooms in the apartment. You share those with one PHD student / teacher, your other roommate is on the arts.. Common areas are hallway, kitchen and bathroom. The building has tons of character, with preserved ironwork and moldings, but underwent a complete renovation in the mid 90's, so there is a modern elevator, digital security doors, video surveillance, laundry in the building. All the electrical and plumbing are modernized. Hot water is endless and water pressure is strong. The walls are thick - you rarely hear anything from the other rooms. There is an AC unit as well in the room. This is not a chilly luxury doorman building, however. There is a familiar sense of community amongst the people in the building, mostly professionals and artists. I feel it's best suited for anyone seeking that old New York bohemian spirit. Please contact me with any additional questions. It's really a fantastic space for NYC - must be seen.
