If you want to find the best off-campus housing at Fresno State University you’re going to want to start your search in late February or early March. Many students live at off-campus housing complexes a few blocks away from campus, so those would be a great place to start your search. The number of housing searches in Fresno really starts to rise in the months of March and April. As the spring semester continues, housing fills up fast, so jump on it before you head off for spring break so you enjoy some fun in the sun without stressing about where you’re going to live.
For rent in the state of California, rent averages in Fresno aren’t too shabby. If you prefer to live alone, a one-bedroom apartment, on average, is going to cost you nearly double the rent each month and let’s be real, the cost of rent will really determine what kind of Fresno State apartments you’re looking for.

Fresno students also enjoy attending the many events on campus like open-mic night, movie nights theater performances, and suiting up in their red and blue gear, and cheering on the Bulldogs at a sporting event!
Head off-campus and explore the great city of Fresno! If you’re an outdoors lover, you’re in luck because Fresno has immaculate weather all year round and plenty of things to do to enjoy it. Spend a day at the Chaffee Zoo or stroll throughout the Shinzen Friendship Garden. Visit the Forestiere Underground Gardens, which is just what it sounds like - a collection of gardens that were built underground that attracts tourists from all over. And although the ocean isn’t super close (just under a three-hour drive) students do have Island Waterpark where they can go and cool off on a hot day.
Cal State Freno students have many ways to stay active all year long! Right on campus, all students have access to the Student Recreation Center. Here, students can take advantage of the workout facility and weight room, aquatics center, fitness studios and instructed classes, multiple sports courts, and so much more! If you’re looking for an adventure with fellow classmates then get involved in the Leadertrips program. This program arranges activities and some include outdoor hiking trips and ropes courses.
Fresno is filled with many parks and trails to take advantage of! Grab your friends toss a football around or hike the trails Shinzen Friendship Garden, the Fresno County Blossom Trail, or Roeding Park, just to name a few. If you have a weekend to spare, try and make the trek to famous Yosemite National Park for a weekend of camping and wilderness fun. It’s only about an hour and a half of a drive!
