When To Start Searching For Charlottesville, VA Apartments & Houses

Given the quality of apartments available in Charlottesville, you'll want to act fast to secure the best UVA housing option. You might be missing out if you're attending the University of Virginia's housing fairs early in the spring semester. Students begin pre-leasing as early as September, a year before they plan to move in.

Your best window to find the perfect UVA off-grounds housing will be between September and November. If you're late to the search, you may not end up with the place you've always dreamed of, but many properties will still be available. UVA apartments close to the school will be all leased up, however. Most of the graduate students search in the spring and secure smaller, one-bedroom places in quieter parts of the city.

Things To Do In Charlottesville, VA Near UVA

Virginia is known for its beautiful mix of green valleys and mountains. A homemade glass of wine may be one of the best ways to experience the scenery of vineyards at one of the many local wineries. Stop by a few of the many great wineries available in Virginia, listed below.

  • Grace Estate Winery
  • Glass House Winery
  • Pippin Hill Farm

Wineries may be a one-time experience for you but we know the places that you should be spending your weekends at. We advised you to swing by The Corner and Downtown Mall because there are great food/drinks options, specifically at:

  • Bodo's
  • Christian's Pizza
  • Riverside Burgers
  • Boylan Heights

Boylan Heights has drinks for all times of the day including a breakfast shot rumored to taste like pancakes and maple syrup.

Sometimes getting outdoors requires a long trip with planning and preparation. Other times, you can pull off some outdoor time with little effort ... like when you head off campus and experience the Ivy Creek Natural Area for a jog or walk. To relax from school, Washington Park is also close by for a great afternoon pow-wow with a few close friends.

We don't want planning or equipment to be the barrier for you to experience the outdoors. There are some student groups that you can tag along with that have all of the equipment you would ever need for free. UVA also provides many more things including retreats, clinics, and various activities to sharpen your skills while on campus. For any of the free spirits that have not spent a day or more at the Shenandoah National Park, you’re missing what Virginia has to offer.

There are two popular areas for students with time to kill. The Corner is an area near campus where you can find plenty of places to hang out. A mile farther from The Corner is the Downtown Mall known for shopping and pizza dates. You can also find "Fridays after Five" with live music and an all-night block party at the Downtown Mall.

When you're tired of Spotify you can find live music with very well-known headliners. Not far from campus, you can find headliners at the John Paul Jones Arena and Jefferson Theatre. Live jazz music can always be found on Sundays and most notably at Miller's.

We're sure you'll find many places to have fun but if you don't run into the Bellair Market and Paramount Theatre, you need to stop by. Lastly, don't forget that Washington D.C. is not far away.
