Students have access to the Donald S. Spencer Recreation Center, on campus, which offers a wide range of amenities. Some of these amenities include the aquatics center, basketball courts, and fitness center. WIU students can also join several clubs and intramural sports like flag football, fencing, and even bubble soccer!  There are also several classes like aerobics and kickboxing to take. Even though it’s open to the public, the university also has the Harry Mussatto Golf Course that students can go to, just north of the campus. As mentioned above, there are many parks located in Macomb to enjoy, like Patton Park, so take a day spending it by the pond fishing or taking in the scenery.

Even though Macomb is a fairly small city, students find plenty of ways to have fun both on off campus! Joining one of the many campus organizations is a great way to get involved. From anime to joining a frat or sorority, and everything in between there’s a club that will interest you (or you can start your own!).  Many students choose to give back to the community by participating in local events like picking up trash or the Big Pink Volleyball game to donate money to breast cancer research. The school’s Fine Arts students are always putting on a variety of shows so check out one of their plays or concerts. Sports are big on campus and students are always amped up to tailgate and support their beloved Leathernecks!

Hanging out (or partying) at friends houses is the norm. Students also like to head off-campus to enjoy activities around Macomb. The downtown area is famous for eating, drinking, and shopping. The Rialto Cinema is always a great spot to catch a movie and Digger’s is well known for bowling. Macomb has several area parks like Everly Park and Patton Park. Hiking, fishing, or playing sports are always great pastimes!
