Living alone is a possibility in Knoxville because it won't break the bank too much. At some campuses, single bedrooms or studios go for over a thousand dollars.
At the same time the more people that you shack up with the cheaper the rent. So, if you are willing to give up some of your privacy and living with two or three people it's always a less expensive route. You can add the extra cash in the beer and ramen fund, because you're always going to need beer and ramen.

When it comes to restaurants and bars in Knoxville you're going to want to head down to "The Strip" aka Cumberland Ave, it's literally a strip of bars, restaurants, shops, and basically anything your heart desires. That is the neighborhood that you are going to want to go to, and lucky for you, it's very walkable from campus. Knoxville has a good variety of bars and restaurants but if you are not into trying new things they also have chain restaurants that everyone knows and loves already. There are tons of outdoor activities that you can do while you're living in Knoxville. Things to Do
The first thing you're going to want to do while attending UTK is to head down to cheer on your fellow Volunteers at a football game. Neyland Stadium bleeds orange and white on game days and the crowd is insane. You would most definitely be missing out on something great if you didn't attend a game during your time at Tennessee.
