For students attending Philadelphia University in need of off-campus housing, you should start getting serious about your housing search in January, not long after returning from winter break. The number of searches for off-campus housing around Philadelphia begins to climb as early as February and slowly declines throughout the spring semester heading into summer. While students at Temple typically start a bit earlier in the fall semester, Philadelphia University students, along with UPenn and Drexel,  have the luxury of waiting until the second semester to find a place. Being outside of Center and University City, students at Philadelphia University will save some cash. To save even more money, try finding some roommates to share a house or apartment with. Neighboring East Falls are two areas of town called Wissahickon and Germantown. These two neighborhoods have a considerable amount of cheaper houses for students to look into that are  just minutes away from the University.

Dining/Bars

Philadelphia University students, along with students from the other Philly universities, often head to Old City where you can find several bars, dance clubs, and restaurants close to campus. Sansom Street is another popular student section of town to grab some grub or hit up a bar at night. If you want to get off campus, take the train to Manayunk. This upscale neighborhood is just fifteen minutes away from University City. Here, students can indulge in the swanky pubs, restaurants, and shopping that this part of town has to offer. When you get back to 30th Street Station, be sure to stop by Slainte. This spot is quickly becoming popular for students to drink at once they arrive back from the train. Just off the Philadelphia University campus is Blue Bell Park. Take your books over there and study in the park on a warm day. At Blue Bell, students can also take advantage of the sports fields, trails, and picnic areas.

If you head a little further off-campus, students can tour, hike, bike, canoe, kayak, tube, camp, and fish the Schuylkill River. Nicknamed the “Revolutionary River,” you can explore many landmarks of old Philadelphia and Valley Forge. Year-round, there are also a lot of cool festivals in town, like the International Dragon Boat Festival and several other activities going on, so be sure to check them out!

Being such a large city, students at Philadelphia University will have endless activities to take part in. When PhilU students aren’t in classes, they’re either hanging out at Kanbar or checking out all that Philadelphia has to offer! Philadelphia is a big city with plenty of cultural and historic places for students to visit. Make sure to take advantage of the many historical sites, museums, and beautiful public parks! Take the SEPTA (Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority) or walk the bridge to Center City. Head to West Philly to catch a concert or go to a club. Tailgate a Flyers or Eagles game. Whatever you’re into, you can definitely find something to do in Philly to pass the time when you’re not hitting the books.
