About Kent State University

Checking out the Kent State University Recreation Services site is a great place to start for students who want to partake in campus recreational and outdoor activities. KSU students have access to the Student Recreation and Wellness Center, which boasts a huge fitness facility, multiple playing fields and courts, a swimming pool, and more! Students can join in on basketball games, spin classes, and yoga.

The Kent State Ice Arena is also popular, and they host an event called Disco Fridays. Also on Fridays, the rock climbing wall is free to use! Attending events like the “Zombie Outbreak” at the rec center always draws a big crowd. See if you can make it out alive! If you enjoy spending time outdoors, Kent has a beautiful park system which includes the Franklin Mills Riveredge Park and the Tom S Cooperrider-Kent Bog State Nature Preserve. The city runs along the Cuyahoga River. Sign up for the Crooked River Adventures tour if you want to enjoy a day canoeing, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, or just floating on an inner tube down the Cuyahoga River. They offer several levels of difficulty and trip lengths so that everyone can participate!

Kent is practically the definition of a college town, so there’s always plenty to do on and off-campus! Joining one of the hundreds of on-campus clubs is an excellent way to meet people and get involved. Whether it be rushing a frat or sorority, salsa dancing, or rugby, there’s something for every student to enjoy. Like most colleges across the nation, playing and attending sports is huge! Kent State has numerous D1 sports and whether it be women's soccer, a track meet, or a big Saturday football game there’s always tons of students out supporting their golden flashes. 

When they're not on campus, many students head downtown to eat, drink, shop and play! Students partake in activities like bowling at AMF Twin Star Lanes of at Eastway back on campus where they have all-you-can-bowl nights for just $3. Catching a movie at the Kiva or the Midway Drive-In Theatre is also popular. Throughout the year, the university and the city of Kent hold many popular events and festivals like the Festival of Lights, Oktoberfest, Black Squirrel Festival, and FlashFest. FlashFest is an especially popular event which brings in top performers like Rae Sremmurd, Wiz Khalifa, and the Chainsmokers.

If you’re up for an adventure, Cleveland is a short half hour away from Kent. Students love to take the drive there for a day of fun in the city or to catch a Cleveland Cavaliers game!
