A majority of students move into their new place in the beginning of August. Students spend the rest of August and September unpacking boxes and settling in. At the beginning of October, everyone will begin searching for houses and apartments around Mt. Pleasant. If you're looking to have the best pick of an apartment near CMU's campus for a few friends and yourself, your pre-lease should be signed by mid-November.
The units with more bedrooms typically get rented first. So, if you're waiting until winter break to decide, you still have a high chance of finding a single bedroom. You might still have the opportunity to find a two bedroom in Mt. Pleasant if you sign a pre-lease before December ends.

Studio apartments can sometimes be a cheaper alternative to having your own space. Unfortunately, there aren't many studio apartments in Mt. Pleasant. Fortunately, single bedroom apartments are fairly affordable.

To earn your rights as a Chippewa, you have to attend a CMU football game. For those of you who do not know tailgating beforehand is just as important as the game itself. In October homecoming brings many festivities. Homecoming is a great reason to join one of the many student organizations, as they all compete during homecoming week for the prized Maroon Cup.
On the morning of Homecoming, the engineering students race their own cardboard boats. The race happens at Rose Pond which they have to cross to display their teams engineering brilliance. Last time we checked cardboard was not waterproof, but check it out to see how some of them make it!
With the Soaring Eagle Casino close by finding a concert for some great memories won't be hard. The Wayside Central is also a notable venue for great concerts and nightlife.
While you might be looking for mountains around Mt. Pleasant, stop by Mountain Town Station Brewing Company & Steakhouse for a break. While you won't find any mountains, we're sure after a great meal you'll be okay with that. For other great bars and restaurants, you need to give our list below a try.
The party scene seems to be run by Greeks which is always a really fun thing to experience. On the other hand, if you are old enough to hit up some bars CMU has got some pretty cool bars you can check out as well.

Many of the establishments in town may cater to the young professional and older crowd more. What were trying to say is you'll find great food, but the search for cheap drinks will be hard. It's rumored Wayside occasionally puts out some great drink specials. If your budget is busted or you're exhausted from studying, you can find some cheap drinks at Kaya Coffee Shop.
The Chippewa River snakes right through Mt Pleasant and very close to CMU's campus. Along the river near campus is Veit's Woods CMU Park which has many running and biking paths linking to other riverside parks. A longer run from campus is Island Park where the Chippewa River's rapids surround you while you play or relax.
Close to campus is the Deerfield Nature Park with many scenic trails worthy of any picture taking. Planning a trip or finding the equipment to be adventurous can be tough. There are many student groups on campus that will help you explore Michigan like a local.
