College Life in Albany, NY

Albany is a fairly large city so there’s always plenty to do both on and off-campus. Like most college campuses, sports at Albany are big and always draw a crowd! Cheer along with other fans at one of the football, basketball, or soccer games, and don’t forget to wear your purple and gold gear. Each fall and spring semester the school hosts a concert and you can catch plays and other performances all year long at the Performing Arts Center right on campus.

SUNY Albany has several campus locations throughout the city, so students really get to take in all that the city of Albany has to offer! Downtown is a popular spot for students to hang out and check out the restaurants, shops, and attractions. Catch a show or play at the Palace Theater. Spend a day at one of Albany’s many museums like the Institute of History and Art or the New York State Museum. The New York Capitol building is also located in Albany and the great USS Slater DE-766 battleship used in World War II, both definitely worth checking out. Other favorites of students is hitting up the Crossgates Mall for a new Friday night outfit or just hanging out in Washington Park.

Outdoor/Recreation

The SUNY Albany SEFCU Fitness Center is a great place to start for students who want to get involved in campus recreational and outdoor activities. Students have access to the rec center which offers a large exercise facility, six-lane swimming pool, exercise studios, track, several sports courts, low ropes course and more! The University also hosts several adventure trips and outdoor group exercise classes like outdoor yoga, rafting, and backpacking at Ausable Chasms, and hiking to the top of Mountain Firetower.
